woods lake trip 2012

This club trip was held on November 17th + 18th, there were 8 club members attending and camping, most arrived on the friday evening setting up camp and settling down for the evening to a few coldies and a cook up as it was blowing a gale straight into shore out of the west we didnt launch any boats until the next morning.

Saturday morning was just nice with a light breeze everyone headed out to look for some morning action and it wasnt long before the first fish was landed on a woolybugger, no surface action until later when there were some smaller fish rising to spinners along the far southwestern shore, the bigger fish were mostly caught out along from the dead tree area near the river on the western side of the lake.

The water temp was 13deg c with patchy cloud most of the weekend, North easterly to northwesterly winds cool and strong at times but mostly light. There were 46 fish landed for the two days and the best flies were duck fly to the spinner feeders and wets were shrek, green machine, black red bum woolybugger and blackgold woolybugger.

Saturday evenings at camp saw plenty of stories told of the day as usual how big that one was that got away and other hard luck tales, The fish in general were in great condition exept for at least 1 of 3 were damaged by cormorants. A few coldies a game of cards and a good feed. Sunday was much the same as saturday, fished until early afternoon and packed up and returned home. Over all a good weekend as usual had by all looking forward to the next one.
